Part 4 of 4: EXPLANATORY STATEMENT
RemovedEXPLANATORY STATEMENT
RemovedIn view of growing global instability, multiple conflicts and crises, and growing threats to the multilateral system, it is of critical importance to uphold and strengthen the rules-based international order and to ensure the efficient functioning of intergovernmental organisations. The report underlines the need to support an effective rules-based multilateral order with the UN at its core, promote and defend international law, and uphold the rules and principles of the UN Charter, while working towards a more effective, efficient, transparent, financially sustainable and responsive UN that is capable of meeting current and emerging global challenges.
RemovedThe report recalls the EU’s commitment to human rights, sustainable development and multilateral cooperation, emphasising the EU’s leading role in development assistance, its support for the Sustainable Development Goals, and the need to counter disinformation, protect fundamental freedoms, and to uphold freedom of religion or belief. It also underlines the importance of modernising UN mandates and practices to ensure effectiveness, impartiality and credibility across the system.
RemovedIt advocates for leveraging multilateral cooperation to better address current challenges such as maintaining international peace and security, combating the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, fostering sustainable development, and promoting human rights worldwide.
