–having regard to the question to the Council on the need for a dedicated Council configuration on gender equality (O-000054/2020 – B90025/2020),
A.whereas, according to the provisions set out in the TFEU, both Parliament and the Council are primarily responsible for their internal work organisation;
B.whereas equality between men and women is one of the core values of the European Union, and it should therefore be reflected as a horizontal principle that the EU pursues in all its activities;
1.Notes that since the TFEU stipulates that the Union is obliged to eliminate inequalities between men and women in all its activities , all of the Council's sectoral policy work configurations have to follow this aforementioned horizontal principle;
2.Stresses that Council configurations are very extensive and are established in encompassing manner to allow all the Member States to universally adapt their internal governmental structures to the Council’s configurations;
3.Emphasises that a lack of a formal configuration and a discussion forum solely dedicated to the purpose of achieving equality between men and women does not automatically mean a lack of commitment in this area; notes, in this context, that the Council and the Member States cannot be forced to make their organisational structures align with those of the Commission and Parliament, as these bodies differ in their basic nature and functioning purpose;
4.Is of the opinion that the Council, along with the Member States’ representatives, should be independent and free to decide on its own organisational structure and policy work configurations;
