| (v) recall the responsibility of the UNSC, particularly its permanent members, to uphold international peace and security and ensure accountability for violations of international law, refraining from double standards and a selective application of international rules; explore ways to strengthen the UNGA’s role in this area, through innovative and democratic voting systems whereby a UNGA qualified majority can overcome a UNSC veto deadlock in line with the United for Peace doctrine; | (v) recall the responsibility of the UNSC, particularly its permanent members, to uphold international peace and security and ensure accountability for violations of international law, refraining from double standards and a selective application of international rules; explore ways to strengthen the UNGA’s consultative role in this area; recall that the right of veto is an essential guarantee of the balance between sovereign states within the UN Security Council and must therefore be preserved; |
